Matte black powder-coating is a 20th-century surface technology, developed for industrial coatings before crossing into hardware. Solid brass with thermally bonded powder-coat finish covering the full knob surface. The bond is structural to the brass — not a paint layer that wears at the contact point where the thumb and finger pinch the knob on every opening.
